The compatibility issue is that the Gilded Key (Unlock The End) does not generate in Bastion Remnant loot tables because of the Cursed Eye (End Remastered).
Loot Table Example:
The point of playing with the add-on mod is to make the gameplay even longer. Instead of simply placing 12 different eyes, you also have to mechanically open the portal (using 4 different keys).
