Project Logo (Foxy's Wonderfully Grand World - Meadow)

This datapack aims to overhaul the meadow biome by turning it into an actual alpine-like biome.

This is part of a bigger project I'm working on, aiming to overhaul every single vanilla biome. But because this is the first finished biome and my first datapack overall, I decided to release it as a standalone datapack!

Note that some of the changes made to this biome will - in the big vanilla biome overhaul project - also apply to many other biomes. Some things in the changelog might make less sense as a standalone considering its the only biome getting overhauled. Feel free to adjust the datapack to match your likings!

Vegetation Changes

The vegetation got completely overhauled, overall adding a lot more variety!

Trees

Trees are no longer sparsely found in the meadows, instead there will be patches of relatively dense forests containing only spruce and birch trees. Oak trees no longer generate in this biome.

Birch trees only take 5% of total trees but every tree contains a bee nest. Spruce is now the main wood type found here.

Flowers

The four main flower types (Alliums, Azure Bluets, Oxeye Daisies and Cornflowers) will not mix with each other anymore, every 'area' of the meadow has their own main flower type. The size of each flower type area has been greatly increased so the chances are likely you'll have to find a different meadow for a different flower type. This is to make each meadow biome more unique.

Wildflowers and Dandelions will generate alongside each other. They follow a similar pattern to trees, having dense areas and areas where they are completely absent. This is not connected to tree placement so you can find a very dense wildflower patch in the middle of a forested area and not find any in a clear area!

Poppys are spread everywhere but only in tiny patches of at most just a few flowers.

Lily of the Valley is the rarest flower found in the Meadow, generating rarely below trees but in large patches.

Bushes

Regular Bushes are relatively commonly found in clear areas in small patches.

Sweet Berry Bushes are very rarely found in densely forested areas, but the patches are bigger compared to normal Bushes.

Grass and Ferns

Short Grass is found everywhere scattered throughout the biome, even in the forested areas.

Tall Grass follows a similar pattern as trees, Wildflowers and Dandelions. Some parts will have very dense tall grass which makes it challenging to see through.

Ferns are rarely found generating below trees in relatively big patches, similar to Sweet Berry Bushes.

Other Features

Three extra features have been added/changed.

Rocks

Rocks have been added. They generate quite commonly throughout the meadow biome, similar to the mossy cobblestone rocks found in Old Growth Spruce and Pine Taigas except they are made out of Stone. Sometimes Stone can get replaced by a different stone type or even Coal, Iron or Emerald ore!

Lakes

Lava lakes have been replaced by water lakes, essentially bringing back the water lakes we all know from older versions. They have been made slightly less rare. Deeper underground, lava lakes will still generate like usual.

Springs

Water and Lava springs have been removed, as these almost never create good looking water-/lavafalls and usually make the terrain look ugly.

Mobs

Some rules regarding mobs have been adjusted.

Passive Mobs

Temperate farm animals have been replaced by their cold counterparts to match the colder feeling of the biome.

Llamas can now spawn, they are the rarest passive mob in this biome alongside Donkeys and will spawn in groups of one to three llamas.

Rabbits now spawn in bigger groups, up to six instead of four.

Sheep are now the most common mob in this biome, but spawn at most three instead of four.

Hostile Mobs

The spawn probability of Zombies has been very slightly decreased (weight 95 > 92).

The spawn probability of Zombie Villagers has been very slightly increased (weight 5 > 8).

The spawn probability of Creepers has been slightly increased (weight 100 > 110).

The spawn probability of Spiders has been slightly decreased (weight 100 > 90).

Structures

Plains Villages no longer generate here, instead Taiga Villages will generate to match the removal of Oak trees and the abundant presence of Spruce trees.

Effects & Visuals

The water color has been adjusted to match the alpine feeling of the biome. It is now much darker, as if it came straight from the mountains as glacier meltwater!

The sky color has been adjusted to be more prominently blue to represent a clearer sky.

Both sky fog and water fog colors have been adjusted to match the change to sky and water colors.

The grass and foliage colors have been adjusted to appear more dark greenish and wet, fitting the abundance of vegetation found here.

Stars are now slightly brighter and will be visible during daytime aswell. During nighttime they really will spark and shine! Just watch out before Creepers catch you stargazing..

Block light has been adjusted to give off a more warmer, soft glow.

And last but not least, the temperature of the biome has been decreased from 0.5 to 0.3 to match the other cold biomes. This means rain will turn to snow at a lower Y-height than in vanilla.

This datapack is compatible with Minecraft versions 26.1, 26.1.1 and 26.1.2. Currently I don't plan on backporting to older versions.

How To Use

To use this datapack, search the files page for the datapack file compatible with the Minecraft version you want it for and download it.

Then open your File Explorer, enter %appdata% in the search bar, locate Roaming/.minecraft/datapacks and place the downloaded file in there. Upon creating a world, go to More Settings > Data Packs > Open Pack Folder. Copy the datapack file from the datapacks folder and paste it in this folder and select it, then enjoy playing!

For Modrinth instances it works the same, except you follow the path Roaming/ModrinthApp/profiles/<instanceName>/datapacks instead.

Enjoy exploring! <3
