RG Memory SMP

RG_Memory_SMP is a Paper plugin for Minecraft 1.20.x that turns player survival into a memory-based progression system.

Players start with a configurable amount of memory. Deaths reduce memory, certain kills restore it, and falling into lower memory tiers disables more parts of the game. If a player reaches 0 memory, they are eliminated from the server until another player completes a revival ritual.

What It Adds

  • A configurable memory system with loss on death and gain from selected kills
  • Five progression tiers: High, Medium, Low, Critical, and Danger
  • Automatic elimination when a player reaches 0 memory
  • Bound player heads dropped on elimination for revival crafting
  • Custom items:
    • Memory Crystal
    • Echo Fragment
    • Forgotten Relic
    • Unban Head
  • A ritual-based revival system with bossbar, particles, sounds, and failure conditions
  • Memory-based restrictions for potions, enchanting, anvils, Nether access, Ender Chests, villager trading, chat, brewing, and Totems of Undying
  • Team-based and gradient nametags
  • In-game item and recipe GUIs via /memory items
  • Automatic recipe discovery in the recipe book
  • Configurable Memory Crystal chest loot injection for supported structures

Gameplay Loop

  1. Players begin with a starting memory value.
  2. Death reduces memory.
  3. Killing players, Wardens, or Withers restores memory.
  4. Memory Crystals can be used to restore a larger chunk of memory.
  5. As memory drops, more features become restricted.
  6. At 0 memory, the player is marked OUT, kicked, and blocked from rejoining.
  7. Their bound head can be used to create a player-bound Forgotten Relic.
  8. That relic creates an Unban Head for the eliminated player.
  9. Place the Unban Head and protect it through the full ritual duration.
  10. If the ritual succeeds, the player is revived and can join again with restored memory.

Memory Tiers

Default thresholds from the included config:

  • 80+: full access, including positive potions
  • 60-79: no enchanting or anvils
  • 40-59: no Nether access or Ender Chests
  • 20-39: no chat, villager trading, or Totems of Undying
  • 0-19: danger zone
  • 0: eliminated from the SMP

Default memory changes:

  • Normal death: -10
  • PvP death: -15
  • Lava or fire death: -25
  • Void death: -25
  • Player kill: +10
  • Warden kill: +20
  • Wither kill: +20
  • Memory Crystal use: +25

Custom Items

Memory Crystal

  • Restores memory on right-click
  • Can be injected into natural structure chest loot
  • Used as an ingredient in the Forgotten Relic recipe

Echo Fragment

  • Crafted from Echo Shards and a Diamond Block
  • Used in the Forgotten Relic recipe

Forgotten Relic

  • Crafted item used to begin the revival chain
  • Becomes bound to the eliminated player when crafted with their head
  • Opens a revive GUI when right-clicked

Unban Head

  • Created from a Forgotten Relic for a specific eliminated player
  • Placing it starts the revival ritual
  • Cannot be freely repurposed for another player

Revival Ritual

The revival ritual is the core recovery mechanic.

  • Only one ritual can be active at a time
  • Starting a ritual broadcasts it to the whole server
  • All online players can see the ritual bossbar
  • The action bar shows the ritual owner, coordinates, and remaining time
  • Default ritual duration is 600 seconds
  • Successful revival restores the eliminated player to 30 memory by default

By default, the ritual fails if:

  • The ritual head is broken
  • An explosion happens near the ritual
  • The ritual owner dies
  • The server restarts

If a ritual fails, the revival attempt is canceled and the head is removed. In some failure cases, a head item is dropped back into the world.
