Monoview
ModrinthThis mod adds the Screen Block to your world, letting you choose a window or monitor to see on the block in Minecraft!
MonoView
Turn any real monitor or app window into a working display block inside Minecraft.
MonoView adds a single block — the Screen Block — that mirrors your actual desktop in real time. Point it at one of your monitors or any open window, and it shows up live in-game, updating as you work. Build a single screen, or tile a whole wall of them into one giant video display.
▎ ⚠️ Windows only. MonoView captures the desktop through native Windows APIs, so it does not work on macOS or Linux.
Features
- 🖥️ Live screen & window capture — display a full monitor or a specific application window on a block, refreshing in real time.
- 🧱 Multi-block video walls — place several Screen Blocks edge-to-edge (same facing, same source) and the image automatically spans across them as one seamless display.
- ✨ Auto-tiling on placement — set up one screen, then place more blocks right next to it. New blocks instantly inherit the source and orientation, so the wall just grows as you build.
- ⚙️ In-game settings — a MonoView button in the vanilla Options screen (and the Mods config menu) lets you tune:
- Capture FPS (5–120) — how smoothly the display updates.
- Resolution (25–100%) — trade quality for performance on big walls.
- Quality — Smooth (bilinear) or Sharp (nearest-neighbour) filtering.
- 🚀 Optimized pipeline — a fast, low-garbage capture-and-upload path keeps frame rates high even at 60 FPS and native resolution.
- 💡 Always readable — screens render full-bright, so they look like powered displays regardless of in-game lighting.
How to use
- Craft/obtain the Screen Block (found in the Functional Blocks creative tab).
- Place it and right-click to open the source picker.
- Choose a Monitor or a Window from the list, then confirm.
- (Optional) Place more blocks flush against it to extend the display into a larger wall.
- Adjust FPS and quality any time via Options → MonoView.
Requirements
- Minecraft 1.20.1
- Forge 47.3.0+
- Windows (10/11)
Everything needed is bundled in the jar — just drop it into your mods/ folder.
Known limitations
- Some hardware-accelerated / GPU-composited windows (certain browsers, games, video players) may capture as black when targeted as a window. Capturing the whole monitor instead usually works in those cases.
- Captured displays are visible to anyone who can see the block — only point it at content you're comfortable showing.
