OneChunk
Start on a single chunk floating in the void. Your world grows one random chunk at a time.
The "One Chunk" challenge from YouTube, rebuilt as a multiplayer gamemode for Paper and Folia.
Every player gets their own island, and every new chunk is a surprise: a forest, a desert, a piece of the Nether,
a village, an island of the End...
Players join with a plain vanilla client: no mods, no resource pack.
Beta. OneChunk 0.1 is tested on Paper 26.2 and Folia 26.2. Please report anything odd.
How it plays
A dramatic start. New players hover above the void and watch their first chunk rise beneath them,
layer by layer, from bedrock to treetops. Then they drop onto it.
The world grows. A boss bar fills up over time, and faster when you play: mining ores, fighting monsters,
and discovering item types your island has never had before. When it's full, a new chunk appears next to your island,
on the side you are looking at.
Every chunk is rolled by rarity:
| Rarity | What appears | Bonus |
|---|---|---|
| Common | A random overworld chunk | |
| Uncommon | A random overworld chunk | Supply crate (dungeon, mineshaft, shipwreck loot) |
| Rare | A Nether chunk | Fortress / bastion crate |
| Epic | A structure: village, outpost, temple, trial chambers, ruined portal... with its chests and villagers | Treasure crate |
| Legendary | An End island chunk | End city / ancient city crate |
Chunks are real vanilla terrain: ores, caves, chests and mobs come with them.
Build-up and reveal. A ghost outline appears in the void, the rarity title drops, and the chunk rises
with sounds and particles. Epic and Legendary finds are announced to the whole server.
Reasons to keep going:
- Pity system: after 8 chunks below Rare, the next one is guaranteed Rare or better (the bar shows it).
- Milestones at 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 chunks: celebration, server announcement and a guaranteed Rare+ chunk.
- Discoveries: every new item type your island collects is announced and gives bonus energy.
- Leaderboard:
/oc top. - Co-op: invite friends to your island. Islands are protected from other players.
- Portals are sealed by default: the Nether and the End have to be found in chunks.
Built for servers
- Folia-native. Every island runs on its own region, so islands are processed in parallel on multi-core machines.
The same jar runs on Paper. - No waiting on world generation. Source chunks are prepared in the background, one at a time,
so in normal play a reveal takes about 4 seconds from trigger to landing. - Light on the server. Chunks are rebuilt over ~2 seconds instead of in one tick, islands are wiped in the
background when deleted, and freed island slots are reused.
Install
Paper: drop the jar in plugins/ and start the server. The island world onechunk is created automatically.
Folia can't create worlds while running, so the island world must be the default world:
- In
server.properties:level-name=onechunk - In
bukkit.yml:worlds: onechunk: generator: OneChunk - Start with a fresh world.
Requires Java 25 and Minecraft 26.2 (Paper or Folia).
